Felipe was the first 'official' flatmate I met at 831 (the first first was Manuel, the younger brother of Jose, who doesn't rent a room there but stays over often to be nearer to his college). And what a kind generous gentle soul Felipe is, tending his three plants with the care of a parent, and sharing the ubiquitous bread and
avocado staples with me from the start! Studying journalism in la
Serena and working shifts at the local supermarket bag packing for tips, Felipe was also really interested in learning English, and we had a funny impromptu English lesson courtesy of Babbel one morning when I showed him the program after a visit from a lady giving prices for English lessons. Felipe tells me he's now started his English lessons, brilliant.

A challenge overcome: to
live without fear of what others say.
A dream for the future:
Eternal happinness
A hope for the global
village: Equality and respect between all the cultures in the world.
I don't know when, or how, or where,
but whenever it is,
it will be beautiful
We had poi in the park at Parque Coll late
one Friday night, with Felipe's and Daniela’s local high school friends, meeting up
for their final get together before heading off back to their different
universities. Playing around with
Daniela’s camera to capture the perfect light trail from the glowing poi... Drinking
wine from melons.. delicious! In fact it was from this night that Daniela and Felipe, who are great friends from school, started talking of la Familia :-)
Sharing deep-fried cheese empanadas in the street for only 100 pesos each (13p-ish) from Tio Aceite (Uncle Oil) and 'completos' (very typical Chilean fast food - hot dogs that come served with avocado and are handed to you placed on a little hot-dog shaped plastic tray!
Felipe is also really keen on photography and has a camera that seems to be almost identical to the one that I have, though they’re numbered differently, and it was Felipe who wisely suggested the house roof for the final shot of la Divina at sunrise, saving me an extremely early morning trek to the beach, thanks Felipe!
:-)
