ONE: Nani Rodrigues

Naniela Rodrigues

A challenge I overcame: A football test 2010
A dream for my future: To know other countries
A hope for the global community: a lot of peace and less violence

Nani was one of the first friends that Rachel and I made in Medina... we met one Sunday evening when Rachel and I were eating grilled meat sat in the main square when Nani and her friend Kiku were stood near us and Nani was looking at us and laughing away.  We smiled back (apparently Racehl more than me!) and soon enough we were all chatting away.

Over the next weeks Nani became a true friend, and was hugely generous guide in taking us all over Medina, to capoeira, to the good acai cafe, even inviting us along to her soccer practise.  Nani is a brilliant sportsperson and plays football regularly with an all-girl team.   She's 18 and currently child-minds Cristina's baby in the mornings while Cristina works at the Meninadança Pink House and has hopes in a year or so to move to Belo Horizonte to study law.

Nani was also brilliant in being up for collaborating in our projects.  A beautiful girl and excellent, adaptive model, Nani was an essential key in our project "I exist...Open your heart" which became the trigger for the mural project "Open Your Eyes, your look could transform our lives".   She even came along on a daily basis to the wall in the afternoons to offer her help painting and get involved in some random body stop-motion interventions.

Love and hugs on our last day: Nani and me (left) and Rachel and Nani (right)

Saying goodbye to Nani on our last day in Medina was really sad, I'll miss her a lot, but I'm hopeful that we will cross paths again - perhaps Nani will visit me in Bolivia (sim Nani?!!)  Rachel and I feel like we were very luck that the three of us crossed paths here in Medina for these six weeks.  The creative fenergies of the three of us in combination seemed to create some seriously powerful project work.

We three musketeers: the three sisters!!

Nani... saudades demais!!!
Espero que cruzemos caminhos outra vez pronto minha amiga lindinha :-)
Obrigada por todo Nani,
Abraços e amor,
:-)
