So Saturday 6th April and I was on the move again!
(Writing this in Brazil, sat at the large family table here at the home-stay in Florianopolis I am a week ahead of these tales.....right now it's the early hours of the morning of Saturday 13th April. This time a week ago I was sat in the square in Buenos Aires drinking a Argentinian-Scottish whisky blend with Dani and Uruguayan cardboard-book-publisher Gonzalo.)
These posters that were all over Buenos Aires, promoting air travel over bus journeys. Every time I saw one I would ironic-smile-laugh, thinking of the 57 hour bus ride arriving and my resulting swollen ankles.
Leaving Buenos Aires the 30-ish hour bus to Floripa seemed minimal in comparison and I reckon I looked more like the lady does in the left hand photo purely for the whisky-blend hangover... (UNwise choice... though a fun despedida!)
The highlight of the journey was meeting a kindly elderly couple: and Argentinian man and Brazilian lady who had met and fallen in love just 6 years earlier. I'm sorry not to be able to recall his names just now, but he was very interested in languages, having an English mother he'd been brought up bilingual, in the job he had before retiring, working as an engineer for Siemens he had had the opportunity to learn German and now with his wife Elisabete he was speaking Portuguese, or 'Portuñol' as the Argentinians and Brazilians call the Portugues-Spanish blend they can understand one another with without studying. Very accustomed to this long ride from all the to-ing and fro-ing throughout their courtship they'd now decided to completely settle in Brazil. Wishing them many happy years ahead
"Love-made"
The first couple of graffiti spotted here in Floripa on the walks to and from the family home-stay... comfortingly familiar signs to connect to in these first days of feeling slightly overwhelmed by the newness of the shiny-rich-city and unknown Portuguese.
Big love from Brazil!
:-)
