ONE: Camilla Brendon

A challenge I overcame: Clearing out my possessions to begin travelling in the Americas
A dream for my future: To have a studio with residency program and hostel.
A hope for the global community: To not have borders, to allow free movement of people.

Brilliant artist and full of energy, ideas and enthusiasm, Camilla is also on an art-focused journey here in South America... in fact in Camilla's case I should say the Americas, as her journey is one with a long trajectory, planning as she is to reach as far north as Alaska at some point in the next 2 or so years...wow!  Hence her answer about having overcome the challenge of clearing out her possessions, a big undertaking when facing such a long term trip.  Big respect to all those that brave that process and get though it like Camila has.

Camilla's project 34 South/ 61 North is both a mapping and a linking project, not only documenting and responding to the places and projects she passes through and collaborates with here in the Americas, but also creating a network with communities back in the UK where Camilla has left maps (and instructions) that will also expand with updates as she travels.  I've been impressed by the variety of the projects Camilla's been involved with so far, a couple of months into her trip, and I'll certainly be keeping a curious eye on her project as it develops over these next months and years!

Here in Buenos Aires Camilla had arrived for a residency with Zona Imaginaria, a socially focused residency based in the La Tigre neighbourhood of Buenos Aires where she has already been collaborating with community workshops and will be starting her personal work from April 19th. Camilla currently has work submitted to the online Saatchi gallery and you can support her by voting online here.

"Welcome to La Boca"
Can you spot Camilla and Dani?!

Seeing as Camilla and I met on Moroccan soil back on our first art residency (first for both of us) at And'Art back in Casablanca in September 2012, we have now spent time together on three continents, an exciting realisation for us as we're both Londoners.  We've actually now spent more time in each other's company internationally than on 'home-turf', having been together first for those 10 days of the And'Art project (where we shared that wicked moment of early morning dancing in our hotel room on Sonia's birthday..yay and were both hugely inspired and motivated to think newly about our work and ourselves as artists) and now here in South America having met in both Santiago and Buenos Aires... and we know we'll see each other again in Cochabamba in September.. looking forward to it Camilla!

Enjoy Zona Imaginaria Camilla,
and good luck in all of your projects as you move onwards...
Big love
:-)
